THAWT (Trent Hills Against Wind Turbines)
Larger Wind Turbine proposed for East Bridgford!!
A much larger wind turbine in East Bridgford than originally proposed is now likely to
be submitted soon for planning approval to Rushcliffe Borough Council.
At 87.5 metres it is significantly higher than the Victoria Centre flats in Nottingham and would be within 1.5 km of most village properties.
Please read the THAWT (Trent Hills Against Wind Turbines) information sheet (download below) with reasons why the proposal should be opposed,
bearing in mind that if the East Bridgford turbine goes ahead, others in Gunthorpe and surrounding Trent Valley villages will be quick to follow,
leading to a potential wind farm scenario in the Green Belt along the river.
1. You can download and answer the "Ask yourself these questions" to help you to understand exactly what
the impact will be should this turbine proposal be successful.
2. There is a suggested "Development Conrtrol letter template" you can send to Rushcliffe Borough Council opposing the
application, but please don’t delay or it will be too late to save our beautiful countryside.
URGENT : Closing date for objections 18th July 2012

Email sent to : Newark and Sherwood Planning on behalf of local communities
Gunthorpe Under Siege from Turbines (GUST) was recently formed by a
group of residents who are opposed to
the construction by Partnerships for Renewables Ltd (PFR) of a very large wind turbine adjacent to the Gunthorpe Lock
on land owned by British Waterways. At their first public meeting held on the 26th October, it was learned that
PFR now wish to erect a significantly larger wind turbine with double the capacity of that originally proposed.
The planning application will be made to Newark and Sherwood District Council. Due to the proposed site location
of the wind turbine, more residents of East Bridgford will be subjected to the adverse health, safety, visual and noise
pollution that a large wind turbine (413 ft in height and 300ft in diameter) bestows, than residents of Gunthorpe village.

The following e-mail was sent to Newark and Sherwood – Planning on 03.11.2011
Attn: John Morrison Re: 11/SCR/00004
Dear Planning Department / Committee,
The Supporting Letter from PfR of 17.10.2011 suggests that they would now wish to double
the generating capacity of their wind turbine to 3MW which will increase the Tip Height to
126 metres and the blade sweep area to 289 sq. metres. The size and form of the proposed
wind turbine is approaching that of the London Eye and would be taller than the
highest structure in Nottingham.
The nature of this type of industrial development on green belt land adjacent to this much used
recreational area of the Trent Valley would decimate the local environment and bestow upon the
local communities a mechanical monster of incredible proportions that will produce noise pollution,
health issues, safety risks and sleep deprivation for a period of 20 years or more.
Considerably more homes in East Bridgford are closer to the proposed site of the wind
turbine than homes in Gunthorpe.
Current studies suggest that a very large wind turbine of this size would impact on all residences
within at least 1.5 kilometres of the turbine. As all residents of East Bridgford and Gunthorpe
will be within this distance of the wind turbine, may I request that we are all notified of any
planning application that you might receive and, as a result, allow our views to the application
to be heard by planning.
I do believe that the closest 'residence' to the present test mast is Cedar Vale on Kneeton
Road East Bridgford which is a private hospital and home to 18 persons suffering with autism
and learning difficulties. You will likely know how detrimental the strobe and repetitive noise
created by a wind turbine can be on such less fortunate individuals.
It is understood that the views of residents of East Bridgford might not be considered,
as we are not within your local council jurisdiction. However, in view of the location,
nature and size of this industrial development that is closer to our community than
many in Gunthorpe, you will allow our views to be heard.
